Kuopio
Kuopio is a lakeside city in the Finnish Lakeland. Villa Rantapuisto is in Saaristokaupunki, a quiet residential area by the water, with family homes along our shore and blocks of flats across the water. The centre is 20–25 minutes away by bus.
Autumn
Autumn turns the birches gold, and the low morning sun lights up the lake. It is a season for long evenings in the sauna, the mushroom forests of Jynkänvuori are close by, and on Tuesdays Jätkänkämppä holds a smoke sauna evening.
On a rainy day there are the museums and Luola – Sports and Events Centre in Savilahti. Carved into the bedrock, it opened in August 2024 and is also a civil defence shelter for nearly 7,000 people.

Winter
In winter the lake freezes and the sauna comes into its own. When the ice is safe to walk on, you can go ice fishing on the lake, and ice swimming is possible by agreement with us. KalPa play ice hockey at Olvi Areena, and the slopes of Tahko are about 65–70 km north by road.
Spring
In spring the ice leaves the lake and the evenings grow long and light. The Vilkku city bikes are back, and KuPS start their football season at Väre Areena.
Summer
Summer is for the lake: you can swim from the shallow beach and fish for perch from the shore, then heat the sauna and grill on the terrace in the evening. Lake cruises leave from the passenger harbour, and in July one takes you on a day trip to Hietasalo island, with sandy beaches, nature trails, a lean-to and a campfire site.
Close to the city
The city is right across the water. Buses 5 and 6 leave from Paloniementie, a couple of minutes' walk away, and the nearest grocery shop is about 400 metres away. Saaristokatu is a lakeside route of about 6 km into the centre, on foot or by Vilkku city bike from spring until the end of October.
